Sample Recipes

Baked Ham and Banana Sandwich

4 servings

white bread

butter or margarine

4 slices of ham

2 -3 bananas

3 tbsp brown sugar

 

Preheat oven to 400° F. Cover buttered bread with ham slices. Cut bananas in half and then in half lengthwise. Place two or three banana pieces on each ham slice. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake for about 10 minutes or until sugar has melted and the bananas are soft.

Open-Faced Hamburger with Mushrooms

4 servings

thick slices of French or Italian white bread

butter or margarine

4 eggs

1 lb lean ground beef

4-6 oz fresh mushrooms

4 slices of cheese (optional)

pepper

parsley

ketchup and/or mayonnaise

 

Divide ground meat in four patties and fry. Remove from pan and keep warm. Fry the mushrooms. Brown the bread on both sides. Place a beef patty on each slice of bread and top with mushrooms. Optionally, place a slice of cheese on top of the mushrooms and broil just until the cheese starts melting. Garnish with parsley and serve with salt, pepper, mayonnaise and/or ketchup on the side.

Cream Cheese with Apricots and Walnuts

6 serving

French bread

6 dried or canned apricot halves

6-8 oz cream cheese

walnuts

Spread cream cheese on the bread and place an apricot half in the center of each slice. Place chopped walnuts in a ring around the apricot.

Note: Open-faced sandwiches are usually eaten with fork and knife.
